Casa Ojala: Redefining the Boundaries of Architecture

Beatrice Bonzanigo's Innovative Design Wins Golden A' Architecture Award

Architect Beatrice Bonzanigo's Casa Ojala, a highly flexible house, challenges the conventional boundaries of architecture. This innovative design, awarded the Golden A' Architecture Award, offers over 1,000 interior solutions within a compact space, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living.

Beatrice Bonzanigo's Casa Ojala is a testament to the evolution of architecture. Inspired by the need for sustainable, minimal, and flexible living spaces, Bonzanigo has created a design that eliminates the boundary between the interior and exterior. The landscape becomes the facade, and the limited space transforms into an infinite home, offering a unique living experience.

What sets Casa Ojala apart from other architectural designs is its adaptability. The house can change according to the resident's needs, offering a unique experience each time. This is made possible through a manual mechanical system composed of ropes, pulleys, and cranks. The sliding walls, made of WoodSkin and fabric, can be rolled up, allowing the space to be continuously transformed.

The house, with a total area of 27 square meters, is circular and made of two wooden platforms. It includes a rainwater collection system, can be equipped with photovoltaic panels, and features a small septic tank. The materials used are environmentally sensitive and socially sustainable, reflecting the designer's commitment to sustainability.

The design of Casa Ojala was patented in December 2017 in Milan and was exhibited at the Salone del Mobile in April 2019. The project was developed in response to the growing demand for minimal and environmentally friendly solutions. Initially intended as a product for luxury hotels seeking new travel experiences, Casa Ojala can also be offered to private customers with any type of land.

Despite the challenges associated with building a prototype, Bonzanigo's innovative design has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Architecture Award. This award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.

In conclusion, Casa Ojala represents a breakthrough in the world of architecture. It challenges traditional architectural limits, offering a flexible, sustainable, and unique living experience. Its innovative design and the simplicity with which it transforms make it a game-changer in the field. As Bonzanigo puts it, "The home becomes a surprise, a game, a theatre, fragrances and gestures. The landscape is its facade."
